As a new member had my first visit to dovedale yesterday in bright hot sunshine. I pulled into the car park to be greeted by the car park attendant telling me I must be made coming on a day like this.

It wasn’t long before I understood why. It looked more like a municipal swimming pool than a trout river with rubber dinghies and hoards of dogs and children in the water.

I then decided to go up milldale by which time it was about 6pm and found it a different world with non of the above just solitude like a trout stream should be.

River is very low and clear but managed to take three nice brownies and a fingerling grayling all to a dry sedge pattern before retiring to the watts russell for a well earned pint.

A few large sedge and olive spinners about but not many rising fish.
    We desperately need some rain.
