BFFI

This years British Fly Fair International was, despite snowy conditions on Saturday, probably one of the best shows we’ve attended. Saturday in particular was very busy with many members stopping off at the Ladffa stand to say hello. Several enquiries for membership and a couple of sign ups make the show worth while. The raffle again expertly run by Chris, a Ladffa friend, made sure that the weekend was a good one for all the visitors to the stand. The main prize of a days fishing for two was won by Hywel Hughes who is taking his day in early June, tight lines are hopefully the order of the day.

New this year was Simon Everett who for a fiver made those once discarded fly tying scissors a joy to use after his expertise in sharpening and re alignment was complete. If Any tiers amongst our membership need his skills give him a ring him on 07768 632560 to get a quote.

We now look to the Bakewell show in summer and the October fly fair at the Uttoxeter Race course.

Nymphing day update

The nymphing day on Saturday the 8th took place as arranged. The morning ,at the JCB Lakeside Club ,was given over to Petr’s full and very informative talk on the techniques of Czech style nymphing and following a buffet lunch, we headed off to the river at Rocester to put his theory into practice!

Most of the 12 fishing caught fish, a testament to Petr’s teaching and the quality of the fishing on the Dove at Rocester.

Other events are to be planned, so watch this space!

Fishing shops

Following on from the Orvis shops anniversary ,there is an even older shop in Bakewell which is the Bakewell Fly Fishing shop run and owned by Peter Arfield. The Bakewell Fly Fishing shop has been in Bakewell for a good number of years and was one of the first shops to import American Scott fly rods. If you’re visiting Bakewell make time to visit this little shop up the stone steps in Hebden Court and spend  some time chatting to Peter who is AAPGAI certified and has a wonderful knowledge of local flies and methods.

Ladffa fishing update

A member has raised a question regarding member safety when asking for ID from other anglers. In most circumstances I would hope that those fishing are members and wouldn’t be against showing their ID, however if the angler approached refuses or gets abusive etc, please do not put yourself in a confrontational situation but walk away and report the incident to me later when your able. Ladffa fishing isn’t worth more than personal safety.
